SAFETY

Keeping pilots safe during all league and Sprint events is critical. Please follow these guidelines. If any pilot sees or experiences any incident they must report this back to Jug within 24 hours.

SPOT (or DeLorme).

All league pilots must fly with a SPOT or similar device with the live tracking feature enabled. When you set up your device you should set it up that any okay or help message gets sent to Jug, members of your buddy team and your next of kin. Your next of kin must have the phone number for Jug and members of your buddy team (or travelling companions). Please arrange beforehand what actions your next of kin will take if they receive a help or SOS message. A suggestion is that they contact Jug and your buddy team members to find out what is happening and perhaps what assistance is needed.

When setting up your SPOT make sure you set up the correct format for sending your messages depending on your carrier or your contact's carrier. Typically you should be using these formats :

[email protected] for AT &T network

[email protected] for Verizon network

You can see all of the pilots with a SPOT shared URL on a single page following this link.

Make sure you have this link saved on your smart phone so that you can see all of your buddies on the league weekends. You might also want to give a copy of this to your next of kin too.

SAFETY GEAR

All pilots should carry sufficient safety gear to help them deal with any issues from landing out. It is recommended that pilots carry the following:

- telescopic antennae for better radio transmission

- first aid kit

- survival blanket

- water purifying tablets

- matches

- head lamp

- spare batteries for your radio and a mechanism for charging your phone

- spare water bottle

- Garmin GPS with TOPO maps loaded onto it.

- tree rescue kit

USE OF REPEATERS

All pilots are required to have a HAM license so that they may access the repeater network and get better reception.

You can program your radio to store repeater frequencies for the sites that we commonly fly. Below is a list of the repeaters you should program into your radio. Should you need any help programming your radio for the repeaters, please contact Reavis or someone who knows.
